The teachings and miracles of Jesus excited the people, but caused the religious leaders to be angry and afraid. The religious leaders thought Jesus had come to destroy God’s laws. The people thought Jesus was a king who would rule and make them a great nation. Others thought that he was another prophet.
Jesus had one purpose, to die so mankind could be saved from sin. The people did not understand that this was what Jesus was trying to do and teach. They became angry and had him killed. After he was killed on the cross his disciples were filled with much sorrow.
Jesus had told the people that He had power and that he would rise from death after three days. This is what happened. After he arose he appeared to his disciples and gave them instructions.
Jesus told the disciples who were eyewitnesses to his death and resurrection to go to a place where they would be together. There they would receive the Holy Spirit that would give them power. This power would enable the disciples (now apostles) to be witnesses to the life and death of Jesus. They would be able to tell men how they could be saved.
